Pentane Insoluables
Definition:
Pentane Insoluables (coagulated / uncoagulated) identifies contaminants in used oil. The oil is first diluted with pentane so it loses its solvency for certain oxidation resins (light yellow to dark brown solid or semi-solid materials composed of carbon, hydrogen and oxygen). This dilution also causes the precipitation of such extraneous materials as dirt, soot and wear metals or pentane insoluables.
